Vishwa Konkani Kendra is an ambitious project of the Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Pratistan (Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation), Mangalore.

A registered non profit cultural organisation, it was established in the year 1996 to realise the final resolution passed at the valedictory function of World Konkani Convention 1995, which was a mandate for establishing a permanent entity for the reservation and promotion of Konkani language, art and culture. The proceedings of the convention were thereafter dedicated for this special purpose. Since then all effort has been directed towards the realization of this project - The Vishwa Konkani Kendra.
  • To facilitate research activities into all aspects of Konkani language and culture.
  • To recognize and encourage literary accomplishment in Konkani.
  • To nurture young talent with regard to Konkani.
  • To provide a forum for intellectual interaction between Konkani speaking people.
  • To provide a window into Konkani culture to non-Konkani people in order to facilitate better understanding.
Propogating Konkani with a Global Persepective

Konkani Heritage Museum: World Konkani Museum is in the process of being set up. This is going to be the first of its kind in which all the Konkani speaking community’s culture and heritage are to be brought under one roof.

Vishwa Konkani Library: A world class Konkani library has been set up which will house a comprehensive collection of published Konkani literature in Roman, Devnagari, Kannada and Malayalam scripts, apart from adding the new books published annually. Ancient palm leaf scripts too will be preserved at the library.

Heritage Homes: Heritage homes when constructed in the tradition fashion, incorporating all modern facilities, will serve as accommodation for guests and visiting dignitaries.

Residential Programmes: A well appointed hostel will be built to provide accomodation to the students of the residential training programmes conducted at the Kendra.

Conference Hall: A well-equipped conference hall has been constructed for hosting seminars, workshops and intellectual interaction. In addition there are smaller lecture halls.

Promotion of Kavi Kala: Special effort will be made to promote Kavi Kala, the fine art of mural painting, which is a part of the Konkani heritage.

Online Services: World Konkani Website, Online Konkani Training, Online Konkani Magazine.

Open Air Theatre: This will facilitate the staging of plays, concerts and performing arts.

This is good, I hope there's more investment to protect the indigenous language, the culture etc. the world has become a global village, and with it comes the curse of homogenization or westernization. there are positives and negatives associated with it. Centres like these will go a long way in helping us preserve our past.
