Agumbe is a place for those who find peace with nature. Agumbe, a small village located in Karnataka, has the reputation of being the wettest place in southern India. It is also famous for its glorious sunsets and travellers on the highway from Shimoga to Udupi or Mangalore, inevitably stop en-route to watch the setting sun choreograph the once blue skies into a kaleidoscope of patterns and colours. The forests and hills of Agumbe are a veritable paradise for trekkers and nature lovers.

Where to stay: Accommodation at Agumbe is at the two travellers bungalows. If you are keen on the rural ambience, cross your fingers and persuade Kasturakka to accommodate you at her ancestral house this is where Shankar Nags Malgudi Days was filmed and any local will guide you there.
